Session Description:
Cancer treatments continue to evolve at a critical pace. These new and evolving treatments start with a clinical trial. More than ever before patients are having to explore whether clinical trials is the right option for them. Come learn and explore how the role of social work is critical to continue to help the patient advocate for themselves.

Jackeline Castillo, LCSW


Jackeline Castillo, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Texas Oncology. Jackie is bi-lingual and has over 15 years of experience in a variety of settings, primarily working with adult clients in various forms of crisis. Jackie is a member of AONN and AOSW. In her current role she works with patients and their family to help address any barriers or concerns they may face during their cancer diagnosis. Jackie is passionate about helping to educate and inform people about their rights to allow them to make the most informed decision. In her previous role she worked with patient’s exploring the clinical trials process and ensuring that they had a good understanding their patient rights.

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:
  1. Recognize patient barriers in clinical trials and new diversity initiatives.
  2. Discuss patient rights while on a clinical trial.
  3. Review current resources.
