“What about my kids?” Help for those caring for adult oncology patients
Session Description:
As cancer diagnoses are on the rise in younger people, more children than ever before are faced with the impact
of having a parent with cancer. Oncology social workers who focus on the psychosocial support of oncology
patients are among the first clinicians to be asked questions such as “what about my kids?” This webinar is
focused on providing additional tips, strategies, and support for helping parents navigate difficult conversations
with their children and teens about cancer and treatment. It looks at developmental responses across the
lifespan as well as strategies for providing patients with validation, support, and language to speak with their
young children about cancer, treatment, and grief.
